NHS | ITALIAN BUILDING
Client: Great Ormond Street Hospital
Location: London
GIA: 3,350 m2
The Italian Building is a Grade II listed building, it was converted in the 1990s to form office accommodation, parent rooms and a nursery.
The new works consisted of converting the building to create a dedicated, self-contained sight and sound out-patients’ facility. This service is currently provided on the main GOSH site. A significant challenge was to achieve the integration of new engineering services, and it was proposed to use existing attic and basement spaces and locate plant and a new lift overrun where such things exist currently and are not visible from surrounding streets.
The works included:
- Internal and external alterations including two new lifts and roof level alterations including using attic space for plant and relocation of water tank room and erection of two plant enclosures.
- Infill extension to existing light well at basement level.
- Partial infill extension at ground floor roof level.
- Small infill extension on west side at first, second, third and roof levels.
- Creation of a landscaped courtyard/green roof at first floor level.
