My week at MESH: Finn Marshall

SHARE
We recently had Finn Marshall with us for his work experience. Finn supported the team whilst gaining experience across all sectors and areas we work in and wrote us an account of his time with us. Find out what he got up to:

MONDAY
After being introduced to everyone at MESH, I shadowed Phil for a while, whilst he completed some minutes for a project. Following that, I received my equipment and worked on an FF&E schedule about the Third Space development in Clapham with Alex. After lunch, I completed the schedule and then learned how to use the CAD software to complete measurements for the Third Space Chelsea Project.

TUESDAY
I started with drawing comparisons of the Virgin Project for Justin and Chris. After that, myself and Phil made a visit to Great Ormond Street Hospital. We inspected the changing rooms and met with the Project Managers for the 8th and 9th levels of the hospital and carried out a “snag” check of the on-call nurse accommodation. Returning to the office, I met with Melis and Jack for a coffee catchup, where they spoke about their roles within Marketing.

WEDNESDAY
I began the day with learning about tender analysis and minute formatting with Davina. I then worked on completing my Virgin project drawings and measurements, ready for submission to Justin. After lunch, I worked with Jack on a Marketing task, where I edited a Leisure Capability Statement, which helped me understand how to use Microsoft Publisher, and uploaded emails to the database. I then finished off the day with a coffee catchup with Liz and Davina, where I had their roles as Cost Consultant explained to me, and what drove them to pursue a career in the construction industry.

THURSDAY
The day started with Dan instructing me on how to extract measurements from the CAD software into an excel spreadsheet. I then used that to complete a large number of measurements for the Fareham project. After lunch, I sat down with Joe and learned what happened with my measurements after they had been uploaded. I completed my measurements and added up the totals of the floor and wall finishes.

FRIDAY
I started the morning off heading straight to Waterloo to have a meeting on site with Phil to discuss their progress. I then finished my week with MESH by having a signing off chat with Martyn and Phil. Overall, my week at MESH has given me a great insight into how a business functions. The support from everyone helped massively and allowed me to fully appreciate a working environment.
